Khunzakhskiy district, August 18, 2014. In Khunzakhskiy district, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov and deputy minister of Northern Caucasus affairs Andrei Reznikov laid the first stone in the new "Matlas" resort. The tourist complex was projected by "Summa Group" – a diversified holding having assets in port logistics, engineering, construction, telecommunications, and oil and gas sectors, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration informs.

They plan it to be a hotel complex of 16,000 m2 with 60 rooms, plus 7 seven individual villas of 2,000 m2. The total compex’ area is 200 hectares. There will be a medical center, a SPA-center, some swimming pools, a conference center, and a restaurant with a view of the valley and the waterfalls. Around the complex, there will be some multi-use sports centers, a golf course, and an equestrian center with stables and a riding hall.

The resort’s architectural concept was designed by the leading Italian architect bureau Stratex famous for their emphasis on using the most environmentally friendly materials. The complex’s buildings and facilities will have interiors designed in line with modern solutions and traditional Daghestan art. Interestingly, unique local climate and environment make it possible for the resort to operate all the year round.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in 2017. The owners of the tourism cluster hope it won’t take more than 10 years to pay off the project – over 50% of its revenues will come from the medical, sports and entertainment services. They also consider expanding through building a ski infrastructure.
