Youth Movement "I - Assistant to the President" founds Center for Contemporary Arts

Makhachkala, July 31, 2014. The Center for Contemporary Arts has been officially opened by activists of the social youth movement "I - Assistant to the President" in Makhachkala on July 30.

«Pozitiv / Negativ» photo exhibition was specially timed to this event. Among the photos submitted to the project, the best have been selected. The exhibition brought together Daghestani famous and novice photographers Imam Guseynov, Gennady Viktorov, Helen Jetere, Timur Musaev-Kagan, Albina Abdullayeva, Zaira Magomedova, Ilyas- Haji, Gasan Mamaev and others. Photos’ theme - people, city, light and dark. A video installation of Tavus Mahacheva and Murad Khalilov was shown at the exhibition too.

Apandi Magomedov , the exhibition curator told about the work of the center:

"The opening of the gallery of Daghestan Center for Contemporary Arts is a significant event for the whole republic. This is the place where not only exhibitions but also lectures will be held. There are more than 60 works by 17 authors, 2 videos. The main idea of the exhibition is to popularize black and white photography." The deputy Minister of Culture RD Elena Garunova made a speech at the opening ceremony:

"It is a truly significant event. On the one hand, it is very boldly. On the other hand, I believe that art in Daghestan is dynamically developing – there are so many names, so many directions. The new show room will surely become another convenient place to exhibit paintings of the local artists. I congratulate all of you to have the opportunity coming to very interesting place in our city. "

The photo exhibition «Pozitiv / Negativ» will last till the end of August.
