Year of Russian cinema officially kicks off in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, February 26, 2016. The gala evening dedicated to the opening of the Year of Russian cinema has taken place today, February 25, in the Russian State Drama Theatre in Makhachkala. Dagestani Minister of Culture Zarema Butaeva opened the event. The top official noted that the Year of Cinema which replaced the Year of Literature, has become a new ambitious and constructive initiative aimed to attract the attention of society to the Russian films, assisting in elaboration of best solutions for the development of the domestic film industry.

In his speech, the Minister noticed about the most significant events in the industry in 2014, in particular the premiere of the new artistic-documentary "Rasul Gamzatov. My Dagestan. Confessions", dedicated to the life and creative way of the poet of Dagestan.

Butaeva noted that in 2016 within the Year of Russian cinema, the ministry intends to purchase two film projectors to provide the comfortable viewing of films from technical point of view. Speaking about plans for the Year of Russian cinema, the minister also shared the plans to shoot two documentaries on the theme of tolerance and xenophobia, to hold an open regional competition of video films on folk arts "Rainbow" and the International Film Festival "Stalker". The Republican Festival "Peaceful Dagestan" with the involvement of schools of arts and theater studios of the republic will be organized for children in August 2016. According to Butaeva holding these and other activities within the framework of the Year of Russian cinema should have a serious impact on the solution of problems in the sphere of education, culture and spiritual educational activities.
