Russian Ethnography Museum to host Day of Dagestan

Makhachkala, April 28, 2016. On April 30, the Russian Ethnography Museum located in St. Petersburg will host the Day of Dagestan, the press service of Dagestan permanent representation in St. Petersburg reports.

The presentation of a project "Matryoshka-dolls in the national costumes of the peoples of Dagestan" will be held within the event. As informed, the event initiated by employee of the Russian Ethnographic Museum Sakinat Ismailova, the People's Artist of Dagestan Arsen Kardashov and their colleagues from the Public Association "Open Palm" will present paintings and art works of Dagestani artists. The doctor Saida Shakhbanova will show panels and crafts made of felt and the knitted items with national ornaments. Saida Musaeva, another graduate of St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin will also make a presentation of her artworks.

During the day a series of workshops on dancing, the production of panels of felt, Kaytag embroidery and painting will be conducted. The sculpture mannequins will demonstrate the traditional costumes of Dagestani peoples in miniature. The museum staff administrated by the head of the scientific-methodological department Natalia Chelishcheva will organize three thematic excursions: "Bijouterie from special jewelry-box", "Great Silk Road" and "The peoples of the Southern Caucasus".

Besides, on this day, Dagestan dance ensemble "Druzhba" will give a concert and Razita Osmanova will play some compositions on the flute.

"This is the first event of the joint project under the aegis of Dagestan permanent representation in St. Petersburg and the Russian Ethnography Museum, initiated by Natalia Chelishcheva and Sakinat Ismailova. The event aims at improving cultural and educational level of its participants and the image of Dagestan and its residents in the northern capital, strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding among the people of different nationalities"- the spokesperson concluded.
