International Festival of Russian Speaking Theaters kicks off in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, October 3, 2018. On October 2, the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, hosted the official opening ceremony of the V International Festival of Russian Speaking Theaters of the Northern Caucasus and the Black Sea-Caspian basin countries. 20 troupes from 4 countries - Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Albania will take part in the big cultural event.

At 17 o'clock in accordance with the scenario, a costume procession of theaters of the peoples of Dagestan and folk groups started walking through the central street of the city. In the evening, the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army presented drama “Tsar Fedor Ioannovich” on the stage of the Russian State Drama Theater.

The organizers of the event are the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, the Ministry of Culture of Dagestan and the State Russian Theater named after M. Gorky. The creative rally is held once every two years in Makhachkala with a view to strengthen the inter-regional and international cultural ties, to exchange the creative experience and artistic skills among the youth.

The festival programme is dedicated to the current state of the modern theatrical life. The jury includes the well-known cultural figures - Nina Mazur, Nikolai Zegin, Valery Podgorodinsky, Konstantin Shcherbakov and Gulizar Sultanova.
During the week, the performances of famous troupes will be shown at different venues of the city - the large and small halls of the Russian Theater, the Kumyk Theater, the Theater of Poetry, the Puppet Theater and the stage of the Lezgin Theater in Derbent.
