Makhachkala, November 30, 2018. An exhibition of unique drawings with patterned ancient scarves by art historian Jamilya Daghirova "Gulmendo - kelagai" has opened in Derbent, the press service of the regional Ministry of Culture informs.

"The collection of scarves presented at the exhibition was created by Dagestan, Azerbaijani and Central Asian masters. The exhibition features about 30 works aged from 30 to 50 years. Many of these scarves were provided to the exhibition by ordinary residents of the republic, the scarves keepers. The exhibition gives an opportunity for everyone not only to admire the beauty of the patterns, but also to learn the historical background of еру exhibits, the etymology of symbols, the scarves development progress and their cult significance" - the press release of the ministry runs.

The exhibition initiators have organized a master class on the technique for creating the "Gulmendo - Kelagaya" pattern that had been kept secret by the masters for centuries. The authentic wooden prints accurately reproducing the drawings on the ancient scarves had been made specially for the master class held in the restoration workshop of the National Museum of Dagestan.
