Makhachkala, June 21, 2015. Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova presented a solo exhibition by Irish artist working in London, Patrick Hawk, which opens June 23, museum officer informed the RIA "Dagestan".

"Using video, photography, design and installation of lighting in his work, Hawk examines how history is created and appears in the present. In his latest works he uses archives of historical cinema relics to examine how cinematic indelibly entered into our perception of history. For this exhibition, the artist presents several video works, set in three zones of the hall of museum, including a new short film recently shot in Los Angeles"- the officer says.

In his series of films "Interview of things" the Egyptologist from the British Museum in London and the academic, specializing in psychoanalytic theory and material culture, interpret a series of cinema relics (props), disclosing their historical and cultural significance. There the cinematic props take the basic position as a subject, to some extent more powerful and significant than the original historical artifact.

The exhibition was organized thanks to the support of the program "Culture of Ireland", the Arts Council of Ireland, the Ministry of Culture of Dagestan and Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova. The exhibition runs June 15-23.
