Makhachkala, May 14, 2014. On May 15, the exhibition "Daghestan as seen by Russian artists. Russia as seen by Daghestan artists" will open at the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the press service of Daghestan Permanent Mission at the Russian President told RIA "Daghestan".

The exhibition was initiated by the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the Gamzatova Daghestan Museum of Fine Arts, and the Museum of Makhachkala History.

The organizers’ idea is that the exhibition presents 2 parts of a single country embodied by the masters in artistic images. The visitors will be able to see a wealth of material deeply reflecting the relationships of Russian and Daghestani cultures.

One part of the exhibition is devoted to the ‘Caucasus in the Russian art’ topic most fully revealed during the Caucasian war in the middle of the 19th century. It was the time when Russian artists first visited Daghestan. Many of them: I. F. Alexanderovsky, K. N. Filippov, P. I. Babaev, G. G. Gagarin, T. Gorschelt, I. N. Zankovsky, were with the Russian troops stationed in the Caucasus.

Another exhibition space is given to the section "Russia as seen by Daghestan artists" presenting the works of Daghestan authors addressing the theme of Russia in their works. Here, visitors will see not only pieces of art, but also pieces of arts and crafts made by craftsmen from Kubachi village - one of the largest metal art centers in the Caucasus including works by famous jeweler Manaba Magomedova.
