Daghestani jewelers win Russian designer jewelry competition

Makhachkala, July 14, 2014. Daghestani jewelers won the Russian designer jewelry competition held in the Kaliningrad Amber Museum in Kaliningrad, the press service of Daghestan ministry of culture told RIA "Daghestan".

The contest brought together 124 artists from Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Nizhny Tagil, Makhachkala, Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Togliatti, and Yaroslavl presenting more than 500 pieces of art: jewelry, household items, paramenia, weapons with precious and base metals in combination with precious and semiprecious stones including amber, pearls, coral, mother of pearl, bone and other materials.

Here, Daghestan was represented by 42 jewelry pieces by 14 artists. Honoured Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Kurbanali Magomedov held a master class "A ring with a stone" within the exhibition.

Following the contest, a member of the Russian Artists’ Union, Honoured Daghestan Artist Sultanakhmet Magomedaliev won the "Masterful performance" nomination for his a silver buckle. Another member of the Russian Artists’ Union Alipat Bagaeva was awarded a diploma "For poetic interpretation of Oriental aesthetics" for her silver ring "Byzantium".

The exhibition at the Kaliningrad Amber Museum is scheduled to run until August 31. Launched in 2012, the project proved successful, raising interest of jewelry experts. It helped see a comprehensive picture of trends observed today in the domestic jewelry sector. The project is going to help demonstrate achievements of Russian artists. It will also strengthen existing professional contacts within the art community and establish new partnership between museums and other cultural institutions of our country.
