Makhachkala, November 20, 2014. An exhibition of Dagestani craft items called "Dagestani souvenir" opened today at the Gamzatov National Library in Makhachkala as part of the "Nuggets" exhibition project.

The exhibition is organized by the Dagestan ministry of culture and the Dagestan House of Folk Arts with the participation of republican municipalities. Here visitors can see ceramics, wood carvings, dolls in national costumes, furnishings, weapons, jewelry, Kaytag embroidery, carpet weaving and knitting art by folk artists from various Dagestan’s cities and regions.

"The "Dagestani souvenir" exhibition is part of the ministry’s conference "National policy of culture in preserving the diversity of Russian peoples’ cultures" which aims at preserving the cultural heritage of Dagestani peoples. The exhibition is interesting and unique due to the souvenir’s essential value. Dagestani souvenir is a keepsake to last and change hands from generation to generation. Souvenirs are a certain symbol of national identity typical of a particular nation, which carries a lot of cultural wealth. We hope the exhibition to become a good tradition," said Deputy Dagestan minister of culture Marita Mugadova.

She also noted that currently, centers of Russian peoples’ traditional culture opened in Dagestan municipalities on behalf of Dagestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov are reviving the forgotten or lost art and crafts forms and they are applying ancient technologies in making new products.
The exhibition will run until November 25.
