Dagestani ministry of culture sums up results of Days of Dagestan Culture and Derbent in Paris

Makhachkala, December 23, 2015.  On December 22, the republican ministry of culture summed up the Days of Dagestan Culture and Derbent in Paris at the press conference attended by the representatives of the Organizing Committee and the local mass media.

Welcoming the participants, Dagestan minister of culture Zarema Butaeva expressed gratitude to creative groups, artists and cultural figures for their successful participation in the Days of Dagestan and Derbent in the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

"The event, held in Paris, became a wonderful celebration of anniversary of the one of the oldest cities in the world - the multinational and multi-confessional Derbent. For our republic, it was an opportunity to show Dagestani traditional culture and professional classical art, to demonstrate a photo exhibition, the contemporary arts and crafts and a detailed historical panorama of Dagestan.

I can say that we have succeeded. I want to thank all those who took an active part in organizing the Days of Dagestan Culture and Derbent in Paris", - the minister resumed.

Butaeva recalled that the activities dedicated to the Days of Dagestan and Derbent in Paris were approved by an order of the Russian Government, entered the outline of the main events to celebrate the anniversary of Derbent in the calendar of significant dates of UNESCO. According to Dagestani minster, such cultural cooperation will be continued after years.

Apart from the fancy music and theatrical performances, the Parisians took interest in the exhibition "The art of the peoples of Dagestan". The exhibition provided an overview of the world of ancient Derbent. The exposition consisted of several thematic sections. The visitors could get familirized with the arts and crafts of the peoples of Dagestan, the architecture and painting, medieval manuscripts, contemporary works of art and much more.

As reported, Dagestani exhibition received positive feedback from the well- known diplomats of Russia and France and the top officials of the UNESCO. One part of the exhibition was transferred as a gift to the Cultural Center of the Russian Federation in France within the framework of cultural cooperation between the countries.

According to participants of the press conference, the activities dedicated to the Days of Dagestan Culture and Derbent in Paris was attended by many Dagestanis living in France. They expressed gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity to “perceive” Dagestani culture abroad.
