St. Petersburg, April 10, 2019. Dagestan actor of theater and cinema Kerim Magomedov performed a solo play “Tree of Life” based on the works of the national poet of Dagestan Rasul Gamzatov in the White Hall of the Central Library named after M.Lermontov in Russia’s Northern Capital.

The monologues of the speaker about the languages, traditions and customs of the mountainous republic were constantly accompanied by amusing instructive stories and parables. The captivating narration of the hero was accompanied by folk songs in Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, Lak, Lezgin and Russian languages.

The actor of the performance, its film director, screenwriter and partly composer, Kerim Magomedov said that the most difficult thing to work on this production for him was the search for a dramatic plot. The author led the story in the first person. The actor, like his narrator, who left his native village, still very young in search of truth and knowledge, after many years of wandering, returns to his native land as an adult. Kerim Magomedov managed to transfer heartfelt sincerity and spiritual warmth in character’s monologues.

The moral of the play is that people, whatever way of life they choose, should always remember their origins, roots. The idea of patriotism and unity of nations passes through all the action of the mono-performance. “There is a border among the languages,” the actor says, “but there is no border among the hearts, because we have common homeland.”
