Makhachkala, March 26, 2018. The art of tastar weaving is being revived in Buinaksky district of the republic of Dagestan, the municipal administration officer informs. A thematic seminar entitled "Tastar - a symbol of femininity and identity" has taken place March 24 at the initiative of the local administration. The employees of the Education Department of district administration and the teachers of vocational education conducted the event.

The director of the regional Center for Development of Endowments Abidat Musayeva shared information on the work of the tastar weaving association operating in the municipality for about three years. The association officers conduct various seminars and master classes on the revival of ancient crafts.

According to Musayeva, for the present time, the tastar weaving is one of the endangered types of needlework in Dagestan. "But there was a time, almost every woman could weave these extraordinary beauties of scarf. Once the kumy and the tastar were inseparable. In the old days, the woman, who covered her head with a tastar, looked feminine, modest. But over time, the tastars went to museums or hid in chests" - she noted.

The teacher of tastar weaving Jamina Shugaibova demonstrated 100 years old tastars with various patterns. "One time, in search of the source material, I traveled to Central Asia and the entire Northern Caucasus. As a result, I brought about 100 species of caterpillars and started creating conditions for the life of silkworms in the republic" - Shugaibova confessed.

Shugaibova remembered how she wove her first tastar: "I went outdoors in it on one of the holidays and all the neighbors, girlfriends did not believe that I made it by myself. They vied with me about where I got such a beautiful scarf. Later they asked me to teach them how to weave the tastars and started bringing their daughters to school. When the group was formed, we launched the first lessons of weaving. "
