Anniversary of Derbent demonstrates rich history and culture of Dagestan

Makhachkala, September 22, 2015. The anniversary of Derbent has demonstrated the rich history and culture of Dagestan; it showed that the republic is strong in the unity of diversity, steadily develops, continues to revive the old crafts and preserves the traditional culture of its peoples – a spokesperson of the Republican House of Folk Arts of the Ministry of Culture RD told RIA "Dagestan".

The Liberty Square of Derbent has become the ethnic and cultural center of the colorful presentation that started on September 19. Here, the festival of traditional culture of the peoples of Dagestan with the participation of regions of the Russian Federation "Tradition" dedicated to the 2000-year anniversary of the city was held from 11 am until the late evening.

The participants of the Festival "Tradition" from St. Petersburg, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia's Alania, the Chechen Republic, Stavropol Territory presented crafts, lifestyles, national clothes, musical instruments and folk performing arts at 14 public squares "Springs of Dagestan". Besides, the guests of the festival watched with interest the exhibition of carpets and works of local craftsmen presented in the Liberty Square of Derbent. Everyone could even took part in master classes in traditional crafts.

The Head of the Republic of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov along with the other top officials of the republican government visited the festival. Accompanied by the Chairman of Government RD Abdusamad Gamidov, the Head of Government Administration Ramazan Aliyev and the first deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Karibov, Dagestani Head visited a number of ethnic public squares.

The Head of Dagestan highly appreciated the work carried out in preparation for the festivities:

"We have done a lot for this holiday. We are grateful to the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin for the idea to celebrate the anniversary of our beautiful city. We are doing this for the first time in 2000 years, putting the city in order, and at our request, the President extended the reconstruction and repair work for two years more. I think that we will transform Derbent into the center of Russian and world tourism. "
