We need to implement serious tourism projects - Sergei Melikov

Karachay-Cherkessia, July 31, 2014. The North Caucasus civil forum "Arkhyz 21» has been launched at the "Romantic" tourist village of the year-round tourist and recreational complex "Arkhyz", the press service of  "North Caucasus Resorts" JSC reported RIA "Dagestan".

Scheduled to run till August 1, the event has brought together 320 representatives of the North Caucasus Federal District’s republics, experts, and journalists to discuss the issue of "North Caucasus today and tomorrow: challenges and development prospects". The forums aims at establishing an annual expert communication platform to discuss and coordinate opinions on  pressing issues of spiritual, moral, social, civil, cultural, political and economic development of the North Caucasus in the 21st century.

Plenipotentiary representative of the Russian president in the North Caucasus Federal District Sergei Melikov said: "It is crucial for us to know your opinion on topics related to developing engineering, road, industrial and social infrastructure. We welcome the informative discussion of the development prospects of the Arkhyz resort cluster. This forum shows that we can and need to implement serious tourism projects in the North Caucasus. We need your opinion, analysis and help to ensure that individual projects will grow into a single complete network of modern attractive recreational facilities."

Speaking about the North Caucasus’ economic potential, director of "Caucasus" centre on modern Caucasian politics Igor Sopov pointed out the economic potential of the whole North Caucasus Federal District as the basic district to be developed in Russia. At the same time, he said they needed to improve the image of the North Caucasus, unfavorable for so long. "Today, we need to tell our public that the North Caucasus is living a normal life; it is growing and it has a great potential," he concluded.
