Makhachkala, March 17, 2019. The presentation of a comprehensive investment project of the Samur Energy Cluster has taken place March 15 during the regular government sitting on the socio-economic development of Dagestan under the chairmanship of the Minister for Affairs of Northern Caucasus Sergey Chebotarev and the Head of the region Vladimir Vasilyev.

The meeting participants discussed the stages of the investment project, state support measures, as well as the socio-environmental effects of the energy cluster in Dagestan. The project represents a complex of energy and industrial facilities based on the use of renewable energy sources (hydropower, solar, wind and geothermal) with a total capacity of 525 MW. It is planned to be created on the Samur River basin in the south of Dagestan.

Samursky energy cluster, according to Artur Alibekov, the project manager at EcoEnergy, is intended to become the main driver for the sustainable development of the southern part of Dagestan, using the existing significant potential of renewable energy.

“The investment project carries social and environmental DNA, while remaining attractive to investors, since its implementation is based on state support mechanisms for renewable energy and the international experience. The creation of the Samursky energy cluster will contribute to a comprehensive solution of issues related to the reduction of energy deficit in the region. It is expected to solve the acute water management problems of the south of the republic and to trigger the effective socio-economic development of mountain areas” – the representative of the project says.

The relevance of the cluster is extremely high, as in the coming years in Dagestan a significant energy deficit is expected, which will have no place to fill. Thus, the Samursky energy cluster is designed to ensure the reduction of the growing energy deficit of the Republic of Dagestan, as well as to improve the water supply in the southern regions and the ecological situation. Besides, the project implies creation jobs will for the mountainous area which is extremely labor-intensive and characterized by migration outflow.
