Sergei Lavrov gives open lecture to United Russia’s regional executive committee

Makhachkala, October 22, 2014. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held an open lecture as part of the "Civil University" federal party project, the press service of the party’s executive committee told RIA "Dagestan". It was a videoconference devoted to topical issues of the Russian foreign policy.

The conference brought together first deputy secretary of the regional branch of the "United Russia" party and head of the "United Russia" faction in the Daghestan National Assembly Yuri Levitskiy, deputy secretary of the party’s regional branch Seifulakh Issakov, rector of the Daghestan State University and coordinator of the "Civil university" party project Murtazali Rabadanov, interim head of the party’s regional executive committee Ulluby Erbolatov, deputies of the Daghestan National Assembly, officials representing ministries and departments, and other public figures.

The Foreign Minister said that the world was "experiencing a transition period". "This is not just another historical stage, this situation is do to eras being shifted and the global balance of forces being redistributed and redispersed. We are witnessing a completely new picture of the world appear, the picture that does not fit into the preconceived idea of the West dominance," the minister said.

Referring to specific global problems, Lavrov touched upon the situation around Ukraine emphasizing that the Maidan bloodshed had been caused by neo-Nazis’ actions, "Radicals tried to impose their Bandera rules in Odessa, Mariupol".

The federal minister also pointed out that throughout the crisis, Russia had repeatedly helped the brotherly people of Ukraine. "After the meeting in Minsk, we observed some new prospect for political regulation. And in the course of the meetings in Milan, Russian President confirmed our country’s will to fulfill the agreements," he added.

Lavrov also stated that sanctions were imposed after the cease-fire had been agreed upon, "Washington uses this situation to impose their leadership all around the globe. The West is set to use Ukraine as a means of spoiling relations between Russia and Europe."
Regarding the cooperation prospects within the Eurasian Economic Community, the minister assured, "We are all for establishing cooperation between the EU and the EEC."
