Over 4 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables harvested in Dagestan

Makhachkala, May 11, 2017. For the beginning of May Dagestan farmers harvested more than 4 thousand tons of vegetables grown in greenhouses. This year, the republic harvested 2.6 thousand tons of tomatoes and 1.4 thousand tons of cucumbers. The three leaders in the cultivation of greenhouse vegetables are Karabudakhkentsky, Kizilyurtovsky and Kayakentsky districts of the republic.

Thanks to the use of modern technologies, the means of protection and improved mineral fertilizers, the production of vegetables in the republic increases every year.

The areas used for winter greenhouses are also being enlarged. The greenhouses are annually modernized to yield crops all year round. In the construction of winter greenhouses the Russian equipment is used. This sphere of vegetable production is one of the main directions for the implementation of the priority project "Effective Agro-Industrial Complex" and the target import substitution program.
At present, the total area of greenhouses in Dagestan makes approx. 200 hectares.
