Makhachkala, November 29, 2020. Over the week, more than 20 thousand Russians voted for Dagestani brands at the 1st National Food Competition "Tastes of Russia", the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan reported.

“More than 14.5 thousand residents of the country voted for Dagestan mutton. The brand ranks fifth in the interim all-Russian rating. Dagestan mutton is the result of the centuries-old system of distant pasture cattle breeding used in the republic, when animals spend winter on flat pastures and summer in the mountains. The sheep are bred on free grazing, strictly up to a certain age and weight, after which they are carefully transported to their destination. Another distinctive feature of Dagestan lamb is the absence of a strong smell” - the statement says.

The press service recalled that from November 19 to December 2, a nationwide vote is being held on the site Vkusyrossii.rf to determine the best regional brand in the country. In total, within the framework of the competition, 24 finalists will be determined in eight nominations. The winners in seven nominations will be selected by a competent jury, while three more winners in the nomination "We are chosen" are currently being determined by a popular vote.
The Republic of Dagestan announced six regional brands for the competition: mutton, apricot nectar, sheep cheese, dried sausage, tea and urbech.
