Makhachkala, November 19, 2014. By 2015, the area under modern greenhouses in Daghestan is expected to be as large as 30.5 hectares, a source in the board of crop research and land matters of Daghestan ministry of agriculture and food supply told RIA "Daghestan".

Currently, 36 greenhouses are operating in Daghestan, 17 more greenhouses of 14.6 hectares are being built. The republic has lots of opportunities for housing modern greenhouses. Yet, the building should comply with two directions:

1.    building greenhouses around cities (reveals a big problem of high costs for land).

2.    building small greenhouses in the countryside (reveals a big problem of setting up logistical infrastructure to quickly collect and deliver the finished product in cities, regions, and outside Daghestan).

Daghestan agriculture ministry reports that in 2013, greenhouses with a total area of 9.75 hectares were built and put in operation. This year, a large number of farmers eager to produce vegetables who have small primitive greenhouses in their backyards asked the ministry for assistance.

Also, a number of big investment projects on building large greenhouses are being implemented in the republic.
