Makhachkala, October 9, 2014. Makhachkala commercial seaport’s cargo turn-over has increased by 170% for 9 months – up to 531,700 tons, the press service of the port told RIA "Dagestan". In particular, grain exports increased by 666% up to 212,900 tons January to September.

CEO of the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport Akhmed Gadjiyev says the large volume of grain transshipment can be called unprecedented for the Daghestani port complex and the port will keep on promoting domestic grain export potential.

To intensify production procedures, the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport plans to have soon installed and put into operation some load handling equipment for direct ‘car-to-ship’ processing. Experts say that after modernization, handling grain by latest technology will lead to a significant increase in labour productivity in the port.

Gadjiyev added that for the 9 months, the increased handling of cement – the main bulk cargo – has added 115.8% to the volume of imported goods: Iran alone has shipped 288,800 tons of goods to Daghestan.
