Makhachkala, June 5, 2014. Daghestan caviar and sturgeon can get an export quota after acquiring a special certificate, said CITES-Russia officer Anna Barmintseva during her visit to the sturgeon facility of Daghestan industrial fish farming "DagPIRKH" previously visited by a CITES delegation which will monitor and keep record of the sturgeon broodstock in their Scientific Board. This procedure is mandatory for obtaining a permit for exporting sturgeon and caviar.

General Director of "Amsar" JSC (investor for "DagPIRKH") Konstantin Scherbakov told RIA "Daghestan" that every year the company grows about 3 million sturgeon fingerlings making 60 tons of fish and 3,000 tons of black caviar.

"Unfortunately, sturgeon is still being illegally fished in Russia. We had a commission who took all the necessary samples to test for a few weeks to see whether the sturgeon was grown in our company or was illegally fished out. If we pass the tests, we will be the first plant in the North Caucasus having a right to export fish and caviar. We pin great hopes on Asia, including China, who are really interested in our products. The analysis results will allow increasing the number of fry we grow up to 6 million," he said.
