Dagestan produces wool carpets to pursue import substitution policy

Makhachkala, April 11, 2017. Dagestan businessmen intend to launch the production of wool products. The initiative has been discussed at the meeting of director general of the National Union of Sheep-breeders of Russia Mikhail Egorov with the heads of the leading livestock farms located in the republic of Dagestan as part of his working trip to the livestock farms of the region.

Egorov visited the farms in Nogai and Khasavyurt districts. According to Egorov, in Dagestan can launch the production of woolen goods for servicemen and schoolchildren. Besides, the manufacture of woolen carpets can become another prospective direction in the regional economic system under the state import substitution policy.

Such kind of import substitution, according to the NUSB director general, may give the region several hundred jobs, increase the demand for Dagestan wool and contribute to the development of wool processing enterprises.
