Makhachkala, August 14, 2018. The large part of the crop will be shipped for cognac processing enterprises of the republic. Dagestan agrarians expect to harvest about 200 thousand tons of grapes in 2019, which is much higher than the last year's indices, the deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic Emin Shaikhgasanov said on Wednesday.

"This year we expect about 200 thousand tons of grapes. Last year it was 171 thousand tons (the yield, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Dagestan, has been a record since 1991). We are waiting for a very good harvest” - Shaikhgasanov confessed.

According to Shaikhgasanov, a significant part of the crop will be shipped to cognac processing enterprises of the republic. “The new law “On the development of viticulture and winemaking in the Russian Federation” aimed at supporting Russian producers, adopted in two readings will allow us to boost our processing. The processors had a problem - it was difficult for them to compete due to high excise taxes with those who produce cognac from imported wine materials. Now our processors will be able to take a larger volume - we hope to process 120-130 thousand tons of the total, this is very good"- the deputy minister said.

As to the top official, the rest of the crop is made up mainly of table grape varieties: "We ship them to Moscow and other regions of Russia".
