Makhachkala, August 10, 2020. According to the minister for natural resources of the Republic of Dagestan Nabiula Karachaev, in 2020, the local fish farmers plan to grow at least 5.5 thousand tons of aquatic biological resources, which is 10% more compared to the last year indices. As to the top official, about 90 aquaculture enterprises are currently operating in the region.

Over the past four years, the area used for pond aquaculture has increased by more than 6 times, from 3 thousand hectares to 18.5 thousand hectares. Besides, during this time, the Shirokokolsky fish processing plant managed to launch the cultivation of its own planting material. To date, the company's specialists raise about 100 million fry of small fish species per year and have also started breeding sturgeon fry.

Among the large-scale projects in the field of aquaculture, implemented with the support of the regional Ministry for Natural Resources, is the fish farm on the Sulak River. In July, the construction of new concrete pools, totaling 450 square meters, was completed and cages were installed. In 2019, 75 tons of marketable trout were raised on the basis of the farm. The nearest plan is to increase the production volume up to 200 tons per year.
