Makhachkala, May 24, 2019. Dagestan authorities intend to purchase two fishing vessels at the expense of the budget in the near future. The ships are expected to increase catches in the Caspian sea by a factor of 1.5, the republican government press service informs on its Instagram page.

"This year we are buying two fishing vessels at the expense of our budget and are planning to increase the catch of fish in the Caspian Sea by 50%. We have applied for federal support, this will allow us to restore the once strong fishing fleet" - the report runs.

The measures taken are expected to trigger the development of the canning industry, to boost exports of Dagestan meat products, fish and seafood up to $ 26.6 million by 2024 against the current $ 23.7.
The authorities of the republic express confidence that Dagestan can provide itself with 100% of its own fish. There are all conditions in the region to achieve this goal, officials say.
