Dagestan gardeners continue harvesting works

The unique natural and climatic conditions of Dagestan provide opportunities for the development of various areas of crop farming. The potential of the republic in cultivating horticultural products is quite high.

Nowadays, more than 25.2 thousand hectares of fruit-bearing orchards are cultivated in Dagestan. According to data of the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs, as of September 30 the harvest was gathered from 18 thousand hectares. With an average yield of 91.3 c/ha, there were received more than 164 thousand tons of fruit; including about 40 thousand tons of apricots, 11 thousand tons of cherries, more than 26 thousand tons of plums, 21 thousand tons of peaches, about 46 thousand tons of apples, 12 thousand tons of pears and 4.4 thousand tons of nut crops.

Territorially, the most orchards are concentrated in Magaramkent, Suleiman-Stal, Khasavyurt, Buynaksk, Derbent, Akhtyn, Gergebil and Tabasaran municipal districts. Thanks to tangible state support in recent years the areas under fruit and nut orchards in the republic have significantly expanded, intensive and super-intensive horticulture is actively developing. Recall, 200.3 thousand tons of fruits yield was achieved in the Republic of Dagestan in 2021.
