Dagestan demonstrates its food production opportunities in St. Petersburg

Makhachkala, October 27, 2016. These days, a series of events dedicated to the thematic Industry Week "Import substitution in the food industry" and the Days of Dagestan are taking place in the "Lenexpo" exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg, the Permanent Representation of RD in St. Petersburg informs.

The opening ceremony has been attended by the representative of Dagestan in St. Petersburg Gasan Gasanov, the minister of agriculture and trade in Arkhangelsk region Alexei Korotenko, the head of St. Petersburg consumer market department Elena Podgornaya, the representatives of business and industrial organizations.

In her welcoming remarks on behalf of St. Petersburg governor Georgy Poltavchenko, Elena Podgornaya gave congratulations and best wishes to the participants of the event in connection with the beginning of its work. Podgornaya informed that 70 large, medium-sized and 150 small enterprises, in particular the food producers participated in the exhibition of food and processing industry of the city. About 39 thousand employees are working in these enterprises. "Food industry is one of the main budget-making, from which the city draws more than 30 percent of tax revenues. Therefore, the priority of the socially important sector is filling the market with the quality products of domestic manufacturers"- Podgorny noted.

In his turn, Gasan Gasanov, on behalf of Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov addressed greeting and wishes for successful work to the all event participants and expressed gratitude to the leadership of St. Petersburg for the great support and assistance in implementing the agreement on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation between St. Petersburg and the Republic of Dagestan.

After the official part of the event, the participants and guests of the Center for import substitution and localization viewed the exhibition. The representatives of the leading food companies and organizations in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region (such as an association "St. Petersburg Bakers", LLC "Piskarevskiy dairy factory", a dairy plant "Galaxy", LLC "Euro packaging", OJSC "Eco Resource"), as well as Belarus, Dagestan, Crimea, Tatarstan, Arkhangelsk, Pskov, Novgorod and Vologda regions and other regions demonstrated their products and equipment.

Having tasted Dagestani sausages, the honored guests such as the head of St. Petersburg department for the cooperation with compatriots living abroad Ivan Bodak, the specialist of St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations Arthur Madzhar and others remained pleased with its quality.

Besides, a foresight session entitled “FoodNet - STI platform for competitive food industry development” took place in the conference room. The parties discussed topical issues related to the scientific developments in the field of food industry, technology, government support, legislation and auditing, selection of ideas for common action plan. The representatives of Dagestani delegation also attended the session.

Recall, the thematic week "Import substitution in the food industry" and the Days of Dagestan will last till October, 28th.
