60,000 tons of rice harvested by Dagestani farms

Makhachkala, December 9, 2014. The gross rice harvest in 2014 in Dagestan proved to be 59,607 tons, which is 20,000 tons more than in 2013, Dagestan ministry of agriculture informed RIA "Dagestan".

The harvesting is over now, having covered the area of 13,156 hectares where the average yield turned out to be 45 centners per hectare.
The leaders in rice production is Kizlyar region where they have harvested crops on 8,434 hectares, which is 65% of the total area in the republic, with an average yield of 45.5 centners per hectare (gross yield of 38,375 tons).

Over the past few years, Dagestan government has assisted rice farms with subsidies for capital restoration and subgrading of rice paddy fields, repairing and mechanical cleaning of the irrigation and collector-and-drainage systems connected to the rice engineering systems.

Thanks to the measures undertaken, they achieved an increase in gross harvest and expanded the areas under crop. They are set to continue the work and bring the rice harvest as high as 70,000 tons per hectare and the areas under the crop - up to 16,000 hectares.
