Dagestan to Intensify Efforts to Eliminate Illegal Dumps and Protect Natural Areas

MAKHACHKALA, June 23 – RIA "Dagestan". Nariman Abdulmutalibov, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Dagestan met with Vitaly Martsinkevich, Deputy Volga Interregional Environmental Prosecutor, to discuss environmental compliance in the region.

The parties tackled urgent environmental legislation issues, with a primary focus on building a robust municipal solid waste management framework. The agenda included plans to eliminate illegal dumping sites and equip local municipalities with sufficient waste bins and container areas.

Officials expressed optimism that significant improvements would follow the opening of new waste sorting complexes and modern landfills. The construction of these critical facilities is on track to be finished by the end of 2026.

Among other topics, the officials discussed illegal development on forest fund land and water body shorelines, the deficient technical state of hydraulic structures and additional environmental protection issues. By the end of the meeting, agreement was reached on continuing cooperation, priority areas of joint activity were set. Measures to enhance the effectiveness of solving the region's environmental problems were also agreed upon by the parties.
