Dagestan's Tourism Minister Predicts Growth in Visitors’ Number for May

MAKHACHKALA, April 27 – RIA "Dagestan." Emin Merdanov, the regional Minister of Tourism and Folk-Art Crafts, projects a resurgence in tourist influx to the republic during May. The official acknowledged that recent demand experienced a slight contraction attributable to natural calamities. However, the Russian Union of Travel Industry recently reported that Dagestan was among the Russian regions exhibiting upward trends in tourism metrics.

Merdanov anticipates that demand will recover robustly in May and sustain momentum throughout the summer season. He expects the persistent growth in traveler interest toward Dagestan, which has characterized recent years, to continue. Although a temporary downturn in demand was observed, the ministry is committed to implementing strategic measures to reinvigorate it.

Despite adverse weather conditions, the tourism sector proceeded with the official opening of the season, initiating activities proactively. The season traditionally commences with a trail running competition, recognized as one of Russia’s premier cross-country races.

As to Merdanov, the event consistently ranks within the top two for participant volume nationwide, underscoring sustained market engagement. Athletes traveled from across the country to compete. Footage from the event shows that, despite snow and challenging conditions, participants persevered and completed the race successfully—indicating resilient demand and robust consumer enthusiasm for Dagestan as a travel destination.
