Makhachkala, February 23, 2019. As told by the press service of the Public Health Ministry of Dagestan, the surgeons of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Republican Clinical Hospital for the first time in Russia applied the technique of treating damaged joints by entering platelet growth factors.

Enriched with growth factors, the plasma is introduced into the damaged tissue through a puncture in specially directed channels, thanks to this, the blood flow is restored, cartilage is fed and new vessels grow. That is, there is a mobilization of body resources for the restoration of joints.

The first patient who agreed to try the new technique was a resident of Makhachkala with a diagnosis of “third-degree knee arthrosis”. With such a diagnosis, drug treatment does not have an effective effect, and it is still too early to set the prosthesis. Thanks to the new method of introducing growth factors, the life of the joint was extended without replacing it with a prosthesis.

Plasma for the procedure is prepared promptly from the patient’s blood and then introduced into the damage zone. Platelets with growth factors entering the tissues begin to activate and start the process of tissue regeneration. Within seven days, there is an accelerated process of regeneration through the growth of new vessels and the division of stem cells. Recovery of the patient occurs in one week. In Russia, the technology was first certified in 2017 and applied by doctors in Dagestan.
