The minimum percentage of men who smoke is in Chechnya (7.6%), Ingushetia (8.8%), and Dagestan (13.6%). As for women in the Caucasus, they almost never smoke (0; 0; 0.2 respectively). This is shown in a study by the Abzac portal based on data from Rosstat (2022).

Overall, 37.4% of men and 10.3% of women among Russians smoke. Over the past two years there has been a slight decrease in the number of smokers among both men and women.

The Republic of Altai (52.4%), the Sakhalin Region (52%), and the Chukotka Autonomous Region (49.8%) top the list of antismokers among men, while the Sakhalin Region (24.9%), the Kamchatka Territory (24%), and the Komi Republic (24%) top the list among women.

Specialists attribute the lower number of women smokers to the fact that they are more motivated to quit the habit when they are preparing to become mothers or during the breastfeeding period.
