The strategy of socio-economic development of Dagestan will be implemented in two stages till 2030. The document will be agreed in May. This was announced on Saturday by the acting head of the republic Sergei Melikov.

“Today we are actively working on completing the development of the strategy, which we have qualitatively revised, including in terms of timing. We envisage the strategy of socio-economic development of Dagestan in two stages: the first stage - till 2024, the second one - till 2030. It corresponds to the timeframe for the implementation of national target projects" Sergei Melikov said at the governmental session on the socio-economic development of the republic with the participation of the minister for economic development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov.

As to Melikov the republic has a number of problems that hinder the socio-economic development of the region. Among them, he named a shortage of water supply, sewerage, power supply, a shortage of places in preschool educational institutions, hospital beds, and polyclinics. The top official pointed out the necessity to eliminate the three-shift education in schools.

According to Sergei Melikov, despite the shortage of infrastructure facilities in the republic, there are many unfinished construction projects, some of which were financed within the framework of federal target programs, which are currently closed. “These are 14 significant objects for the republic: 3 healthcare facilities, 8 wastewater disposal and water supply facilities and 3 facilities for improvement and construction of roads in the resettlement Novolaksky district, which were financed with the involvement of funds from the federal target programs “South of Russia”, “Housing” and “Pure water”.

The acting head of Dagestan noted that the republican economy should develop at a faster pace. “In this regard, we need to reconsider approaches to economic development, the creation of new industries that use our capabilities and resources, primarily in the agro-industrial complex and the attraction of private capital”.
