"In the course of archaeological excavations at the construction site of the landscape park between the fortress gates "Kyrhlyar-Kapi" and "Jarchi-Kapi" a Sassanid seal of the kings of Derbent (V-VI centuries) was found," – mayor of Derbent Rustambek Pirmagomedov says.

As to Pirmagomedov, the find is another confirmation of the "great historical heritage of the ancient city,". Derbent is one of the oldest cities in Russia and the world. In 2015, it celebrated its 2000th anniversary. A settlement on its territory existed more than five thousand years ago. The city is protected by UNESCO.

Derbent Fortress is part of the medieval defensive system that protected against the penetration of nomads along the shore of the Caspian Sea, bypassing the Caucasus Mountains. Earlier in Derbent, Dagestan, archaeologists discovered two treasures during excavations of the archaeological complex in the city's central square.

The scientists hope to uncover the secret of a building located on the territory of the ancient Naryn-Kala fortress in Derbent. The Ministry of Culture instructed to prepare a plan to eliminate the partial destruction of Derbent citadel.
