Radjab Butaev wins 3 fights in World Boxing Series season

Volgograd, February 26, 2015. Russian champion-2014 Dagestani boxer Radjab Butaev made a third straight win in the World Boxing Series season’s Olympic qualifier, athlete’s coach Akhmed Zhanaev told RIA Dagestan.

On February 21, the Russian team defeated the Ukrainian Atamans team 5-0 in the sixth round of the World Series group stage in Volgograd.

"It was another confident team win of the Russian boxers Radjab participated in, - Zhanaev commented. - In the 69 kg weight, he fought against Oleg Zubenko who he won in the convincing manner he had won his two previous rivals - Chinese Wei Liu and Mexican Marvin Vergara Cabrero. In all the three rounds, judges gave Rajab the win - 50:45, 50:45, and 50:45). Right after the bout, Radjab left for Moscow where the Russian national team will be preparing for the visiting matches with the Algerian team."

As for the other Russian athletes performing in Volgograd, Vasily Vetkin defeated Azat Usenaliev (52 kg), Adlan Abdurashidov defeated Paul Ishchenko (60 kg), Pavel Silyagin won Alexander Hizhnyak (81 kg), and Maxim Babanin won Igor Shevadzutstky (91 kg).

Despite the defeat, the Ukrainians are ahead of the Russians in the overall standings – Ukrainian Atamans are the second with 13 points. The Russian team in now the third having scored 12 points with a match in hand. Cubans are the leaders with no lose record.

In the first WSB match of the season, on January 23, the Russians beat the hosting team of China (4: 1), on January 30, they lost out to Cubans (0: 5) in Havana, on February 7, they won the Mexicans (5: 0) in Samara, Russia, and on February 12, they defeated the Britons (5: 0) in Moscow.

The World Series of Boxing takes up 16 national teams. The group stage results and the individual rating will determine 17 participants of the Olympic Games-2016 in 10 weights.
