Judoka Rustam Zabolotnшy wins gold of Russian championship

Makhachkala, February 17, 2015. Dagestani judoka Rustam Zabolotniy won a gold medal at the Russian championships held February 12-15 in Kazan, athlete’s coach Gamzat Gadjiyev told RIA Dagestan. The national championships for youth under 18 brought together 441 athletes in 9 weights (46, 50, 55, 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, and +90 kg). Here, Dagestan was represented by 11 judokas.

"Rustam showed 6 wins at the local Sports Palace, 5 of them early wins. In the final match, Zabolotniy opposed another Dagestani Ramazan Abdullaev now representing Samara. While losing the bout, Zabolotniy managed to earn ippon, thus performing a strong-willed victory"- G. Gadjiyev commented.
Another Dagestan’s medal was provided by 2013 national champion Alihumar Tumav. He was one of the favorites in the 90 kg weight. In the fight for the gold, he was defeated by Ingush Adam-Hajji Mutaliev.

The winners of the championships in Kazan will refresh the Russian national team which is now preparing for the European championships to be hosted by Bulgaria in July, 2015, for the August’s world championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other international competitions.
