Makhachkala, June 25, 2017. A Fencing and Swimming Sports School has opened in the administrative center of the Republic of Dagestan, Makhachkala. This is the first school of fencing in the region. The official opening ceremony has not taken place yet, the press service of the Ministry for Physical Culture and Sports of Dagestan reports.

Recall, the order to create a specialized fencing school named after the three-time Olympic champion in fencing Vladimir Nazlymov was given by the region governor R.Abdulatipov in October 2016 at the meeting with the Russian Federation deputy Minister of Sports Marina Tomilova and Vladimir Nazlymov.

"The idea of establishing fencing school does not need significant expenses, it is enough to have a hall and equipment for fencing. I will provide the trainers and equipment"- Nazlymov said, expressing hope that this kind of sport would find its admirers among the Dagestanis.

It should be noted that fencing in Dagestan was widely developed in the period of 60-80 years of the last century. In particular, hundreds of boys and girls in Makhachkala were engaged in fencing and gymnastics at the children's sports school on Oscar Street, which later defended the honor of the republic in sports competitions in the region and the USSR, Europe and the world.

The most titled athlete of Dagestan, Vladimir Nazlymov, started fencing since 1956. He won the title of three-time Olympic champion three times as part of the USSR national team in the period from 1967 to 1980. Nazlymov is the multiple world champion, the World Cup winner, the best fencer of the planet in 1975 and 1977 according to the International Fencing Federation. After the end of his sports career Nazlymov worked as the head coach of the USSR Armed Forces team in fencing. In 1995 and 1997 he was the senior coach of the US team.
