Daghestan’s pankration athletes win MMA world championships

Makhachkala, August 26, 2014. 3 athletes representing Daghestan Pankration Federation won the 20th world championships in mixed martial arts held from 23-24 August in Lamego, Portugal, federation’s head Imanali Hanipaev informed RIA "Dagestan".

Daghestani champions are Kamal Magomedov (91 kg), Murtuz Suleimanov (84 kg), and Sharamazan Chupanov (66 kg). "The latter 2 had only 2 fights each. I’d point out Chupanov’s technical victory over the local fighter – 3-time world champion Oscar Neva," -Khanipaev said.
At the tournament, Daghestan was represented by 5 athletes. In the 87 kg weight, Gasbula Ismailov lost the first fight, in the 72 kg weight, Alim Cherkasov was injured after the first fight he had won, so he had to quit.

Also, Daghestan Pankration Federation is going to send 5 athletes to the open MMA tournament in memory of former Chechen President Akhmad-Hajji Kadyrov in Shali, Chechnya, August 25-26. They are: Magomedgadji Rashidov (35 kg), Ramazan Djabrahilov (45 kg), Makamagomed Hairulaev (62 kg), Ali Magomedov (62 kg), and Shamil Sahidov (65 kg).
