Daghestan chess player brings medals from international competitions

Makhachkala, July 2, 2014. Daghestan chess player Ruslan Shavshin won silver at the international competition for school children in the Greek city of Kavala held on June13-27, the player’s coach, international grandmaster Djakai Djakaev told RIA "Daghestan".

"Makhachkala Karpov chess school’s trainee Ruslan Shavshin placed second at the world championship in rapid chess scoring 7.5 points out of 9; in blitz chess, he was the winner with 8 points out of 9," Djakaev said adding that it hadn’t been an accidental success. "Despite his youth (he is 15), Ruslan is a multiple North Caucasus Federal District champion and a two-time champion of the international «Moscow Open» tournament," the coach specified.

Now, Shavshin’s goal is to reach the rank of FIDE master at the very least, and earn the international master rank as maximum within a year and a half.
