Dagestan Greco-Roman wrestlers take silver at European Championship

Makhachkala, August 10, 2015. Dagestan Greco-Roman style wrestler Sharap Alihanov won a silver medal at the Junior European Championship, held in three styles of fighting in the Serbian city of Subotica on August 4 – 9.

The Greco-romans competed in the final two days of competition. On the last day of the championship the athletes acting in the weight category up to 100 kg performed. Among the, there was a Dagestani Sharap Alikhanov. Alikhanov started reassuringly the fight with Azerbaijani Jamal Feyziev. He first moved his opponent to the mat. However, when the third time tried to hold the same technique, his opponent managed to slip up and earned two points. The scoreboard displayed the score 6: 2.

However, Azerbaijani's trainers threw "Challenge" and the judge canceled all points earned by the wrestlers. The Russian junior team in Greco-Roman wrestling, winning the European Championship five gold, two silver and two bronze medals, far ahead of their pursuers took the first place in the overall standings. Georgians (2-2-2) were the second. Turks (1-1-3) took the third place.
