Makhachkala, March 4, 2015. More than 300 fighters participated in Dagestan Mix-Combat championships held March 1-2 in the Gaidarbekov Sports Palace in Makhachkala, Vice-President of Dagestan Combat Self-Defense Federation Djamal Kudaev told RIA Dagestan.

"These are the annual competitions held by the federation. The Mix-Combat section involves bouts for fighters demonstrating technical and tactical actions in full contact, in stand and on the mat, who use both good punches and submission holds. This year, more than 300 athletes applied for participation in the tournament. They represent many popular sports clubs, so we decided to hold both individual and team championships," the official said.

The first priority for Dagestan Combat Self-Defence Federation today is not achieving high results, but spiritual and moral education of athletes because a fighter should be a fully developed personality. "That is our priority by now. It’s a common knowledge that our athletes are one of the strongest in the world, this isn’t something we have to prove - seeing the statistics will be enough," Kudaev underscored.

The "Olymp" sports club from Makhachkala won the team competition. Two more Makhachkala’s clubs – the Djafarov club and the Gasimov club finished second and third.

The championships also featured two professional bouts. In the 65 kg weight, Mahachkala’s Murad Ibragimov won Zaur Magomedov from Karabudakhkent region, and in the 93 kg weight Izberbash’s Daudgadji Ibragimov defeated Ichakai Pataliev from Karabudakhkent region.

The finalists of the tournament qualified for the North Caucasus Federal District championships scheduled to run March 21-22 in Kislovodsk, Stavropol region.
