Slavic forum held in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, May 26, 2015. A Slavic forum dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture is being held in the capital of Dagestan. In the run-up of the solemn plenary session, Dagestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov in company with chief Dagestan federal inspector of the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian President in the North Caucasus Federal District Vasily Kolesnikov, deputy Dagestan Prime Minister Ramazan Djafarov, and first deputy chief of Dagestan Head and government’s administration Aleksey Gassanov toured the festive Cossack and Russian courts.

The courts were deployed on the arena in front of the House of Friendship in Makhachkala. The carefully recreated atmosphere of Cossack antiquity allowed the guests to get acquainted with the life, culture and history of the Cossacks and the Russians. Pleasing to the eye were colourful performances by Russian folk groups from Kizlyar as well as Tarumovka and Kizlyar regions. After listening to the solemn speeches, the government delegation saw the exposition of Dagestan National Library and the Gamzatova Museum of Fine Arts.

Then, Abdussamad Gamidov took part in the plenary session. On behalf of Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov and Dagestanis, the Cabinet head warmly welcomed the participants and guests of the solemn meeting devoted to celebration of the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. In his speech, the official stressed that the historical and cultural shape, the present and the future of the Russian Federation are closely connected with its features such as multi-ethnicity and religious diversity.

The forum also heard Secretary of Grozny and Makhachkala Diocese Father John, Chair of the Russian language department of Dagestan State University, Doctor of Philology Professor Djalil Samedov, first deputy head of the Russian Border Service in Dagestan Vladimir Yurov, Ataman of the Kizlyar special border district Cossack society TVKO Valentin Ivanov, and the director of the Dagestan Gamzatova Museum of Fine Arts.

The plenary session ended up with a concert of songs performed by the choir of Makhachkala diocese and the State Terek Ensemble of Cossack songs.
