Sergey Melikov meets with Commissioner for Human Rights in North Caucasian Federal District

Makhachkala, September 17, 2015. On September 16, the meeting of the Coordination Council of Commissioners for Human Rights in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District took place in Nalchik. The official event brought together the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian President in the North Caucasian Federal District Sergey Melikov and the head of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic Yuri Kokov.

Addressing the officials, Sergey Melikov noted that the multiculturalism of the Northern Caucasus affected the relations in the sphere of human rights.
"It is important to know the nature of the problems to solve it effectively," - Sergey Melikov said.

In her turn, Ella Pamfilova said that over 8 months of this year she had received more than 600 complaints from residents of the district. Most of complaints were related to the activities of law enforcement agencies, the respect of housing and labor rights of citizens, the quality and cost of housing services.

As the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Dagestan Ummupazil Omarova pointed out that without support of government of the Russian Federation, the constructive cooperation with the government authorities and the law enforcement bodies, it would be impossible effectively to solve the citizens’ problems and to identify systemic problems in certain spheres.

At the end of the sitting, the parties adopted recommendations to resolve the issues in the protection of citizens' rights, as well as agreed to hold regular meetings with participation of the competent envoy for human rights in  the North Caucasus Federal District. The first such meeting will be held in November 2015.
