Restoration works complete by 70% in Derbent - Dagestan authorities

Makhachkala, July 15, 2015. Dagestani authorities plan to complete all restoration works in one of the oldest cities in Russia - Derbent, which celebrates its 2000-year anniversary this year on August 30. This was reported today at the press center of the 2000th anniversary celebration of Derbent.

"The gentrification works in the city started in August 2014 and will have been finished by August 30, 2015; 70% of all scheduled works have been completed" the press center official says.

As previously reported, the ancient mosque in Russia and one of the oldest in the world Juma mosque and the citadel Naryn-Kala, built in the VI century had already been restored.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on celebration of the 2000th anniversary of Derbent in 2012. The main celebratory events will take place from September 2015 till the end of 2018.

The anniversary celebration will cost more than 1.7 billion rubles, of which about 1.2 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget.
