Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, November 6, 2014. Rector of Daghestan Humanities Institute Magomed Magomedov participated in the International interfaith conference called "Traditional religions: a call for moderation and good neighborliness" held in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria.

The institute’s press service told RIA "Daghestan" that a special scientist delegation came to Nalchik from Arab countries to participate in the symposium on invitation of Kabardino-Balkaria head Yuri Kokov. They are: general secretary of the World Union of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Ali Muhi al-Din al-Karadagi, member of the union’s executive committee Sheikh Abd ar-Rahman bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, and Sheikh Dr. Khalid Al-Mazkur – the chairman of the Supreme Advisory Committee for gradual introduction of Sharia norms into domestic law under the administration of the Amir of Kuwait.

The conference is relevant due to the rapidly reviving interest in Islam in modern Russia. There’ve appeared some pressing issues of finding an optimal balance between the values of the secular nationhood, civil society, national culture and religious practice.

The conference adopted two fatwas. The first one was recognizing Kabardino-Balkaria as a "territory of peace", and the second one was about the Muslims’ attitude towards the so-called "Islamic state".
