Makhachkala, February 15, 2014. On February 14, Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov met with Daghestan boxers who had saved passengers of a burning tram in Khabarovsk, the press service of Daghestani Head and Government Administration informed RIA "Daghestan". The first deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Karibov, the minister of physical culture and sport Magomed Magomedov and the athletes’ coaches also came to the meeting.

On November 14, 2013, 9 Daghestani boxers who had arrived in Khabarovsk to take part in the Russian championships got passengers out of a burning tram. That morning, they were jogging around the Palace of Sports. Seeing a burning tram, they immediately rushed to rescue the passengers trapped in the flaming tram. Realizing that the way out was blocked, the athletes broke windows and helped people out of the burning transport. They saved 20 people including the elderly and children.

As Ramazan Abdulatipov noted, it is critical to save face in sports as well as in any other activity. He quoted Ernest Hemingway as saying, "Sport is a micro-model of life teaching us to win and lose," a phrase about sports best characterizing its essence.

Starting from sports, Abdulatipov proceeded to political, social and economic life of Daghestan speaking about what is being done by Daghestani authorities and the measures taken to restore order in the region.

He also said that a day after the incident, he talked to the Khabarovsk region’s Governor who praised the athletes. "While the public believes all Daghestani to be bandits, such deeds are very important for both Daghestan and Russia to show that we are the citizens of our country and we are ready to risk our lives for the sake of our fellow citizens."

At the end of the meeting, Ramazan Abdulatipov gave the athletes and their coaches the money rewards and his author copies of the book "My Daghestani People".
