Over 300 orphans find foster families in Daghestan in 2014

Makhachkala, September 9, 2014. 322 orphans were taken to foster families and 30 children were adopted in Daghestan in 2014, a source in the ministry of education and science informed RIA "Dagestan". In 2013, 898 children were left without parental care; most of them were taken to families.

Currently, 5,913 orphans and children left without parental care are living in Daghestan. Of them, 5,635 are brought up in foster families, and 278 stay in foster care facilities. In the republic, they prioritize family foster care, mostly guardianship. The ministry intends to reduce the number of orphans and children left without parental care down to 58 until the end of 2014.

This summer, 140 orphans graduated from educational institutions, 10 were employed, and 130 enrolled at secondary or higher education institutions.
In Daghestan, the guardianship lump-sum benefit amounts to 13,742 rubles; the monthly guardianship allowance is 4,697 rubles. 105,000 rubles is a lump-sum benefit for families adopting children with disabilities, siblings, children over 7, and children who had previously been under guardianship or in foster families.
