Makhachkala, January 22, 2015. An innovative training and simulation surgery center is to be established in Dagestan, Head of the Endoscopic Surgery Class of the Dagestan State Medical Academy, vice-rector of the university Magomed Hamidov said in an interview with RIA Dagestan.

In the follow-up of the Russian Society of Endoscopic Surgeons Assembly held on January 15-16 in Makhachkala, participants decided for establishing a big innovative training and simulation surgery center. The facility will have modern virtual simulators for future surgeons, gynecologists and other specialists to practice.

"By now, we have to go further to high-tech medicine. To date, 8 hospitals in Dagestan are licensed to provide high-tech medical care meaning they have all the appropriate equipment and personnel. Our task at the moment is to apply endoscopic technology to high-tech surgical interventions.
"Our goal is to enable Dagestanis to get high-tech medical care without having to travel outside Dagestan. For this, we have all prerequisites - specialists, equipment, a training center, and the will of the republican ministry of healthcare," summed up Magomed Hamidov.

The first endoscopic surgery in the world - videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder through punctures with the help of a camcorder) was held in 1987 in Lyon, France. It was called the second French Revolution, because it’s a rare technique that would be quick, safe and possessing tremendous advantages both for the surgeon and the patient.

The first laparoscopic operation in Russia was carried out in 1991 by Professor Yuri Galinger at the Surgery Research Center. The first one in Makhachkala was made by Professor Akhmed Halidov in Dagestan Clinical Hospital in April, 1994. Later, they established an endoscopic surgery department in the hospital. Within 8-10 years, endoscopic surgery expanded as far as all the republican and most of the city hospitals.
