Harbor for larger ships and boats to be built in Dagestan

Makhachkala, August 30, 2016. A harbor for larger ships and boats is planned to be built in Dagestani administrative center – Makhachkala. The project provides for the construction of the hotel complex, passengers’ ferry station and a pier for small cruise ships.

According to the pre-designed project, the passenger flow through the marina may amount to approx. 30 thousand people per year. Investors intend to construct similar pier in the city of Derbent to restore the once existed maritime tourist route. The company plans to resume passenger maritime transport from Astrakhan to Baku, a source says.

Currently, according to the source, all the necessary data is collected to conduct further design researches for the construction of the marina and hotel complex.

In case of a positive conclusion for the project documentation by the state examination commission and the allocation of the necessary funds, the start of construction works is scheduled for the end of 2017.

Noteworthy, investors also indicate an intention to construct a pier for mooring of yachts and ships in Makhachkala, the director of "Ship repair" JSC Ahmed Kurbanov said. The quay will be located on the territory of Makhachkala shipyards.

According to the source, the estimated capacity of the marina will be up to 100 boats. Its length will exceed 200-250 meters. It is expected that the facility will be constructed at the expense of investors.

The company director explained the need for such a facility by several factors. Among them - the intensification of work with the Republican Sailing Federation. “The construction of the pier will allow to develop this sport, as well as to revive the once-existed cruise shipping routes”
